Half Marathon Training

Last Sunday I posted on Facebook that I was thinking about doing a half-marathon and I asked my friends for advice and training schedules they followed. I had a slew of responses and have since signed up for a race on June 7th, and started my training!

Currently I am following a training plan for an 8k but after the fourth week I will be moving to a half marathon training schedule. I have one extra week in my training before my race so I can use that as a week off or add a little more distance before the race. I'm using an app called RunKeeper that tracks each of my activities. I really like using it because it tracks where I run, how far I run, how fast I run, how much elevation I've gained, and it tells me when I have achieved a new personal record.

This week I have ran three times, strength trained, and cross trained twice. Caleb and I went road biking one day for cross training, and mountain biking for the other cross training day (I can't believe it is mid February and it is warm enough to mountain bike).

I feel great! I love that I am trying to keep my body healthy. On Friday, Caleb and I were out shopping and we were wondering what we should eat for dinner. We passed a Krispy Kreme and he suggested we eat donuts for dinner. That might sound absurd to you, but we have done that a handful to times in the past. I thought about it, and turned it down. I didn't want to do that too my body after I have worked so hard this week. I have very weak discipline when it comes to eating, and when I said no to eating delicious donuts, I felt accomplished! :)

I'm posting this in hopes that I continue with my program and that YOU can help me stay accountable, motivate me, and support me in my choices! Thanks in advance!

Oh, one more thing I like about Runkeeper. After my workout is done is allows me to take a picture and I think it's a fun idea. It gives me an excuse to also document my training with photos!

After my first road bike ride of the year!

And after my first mountain bike ride of the year!
Au revoir mes amis!

  1. Awesome! Good luck to you. And that app sounds pretty cool too.
