Half Marathon Training

Last Sunday I posted on Facebook that I was thinking about doing a half-marathon and I asked my friends for advice and training schedules they followed. I had a slew of responses and have since signed up for a race on June 7th, and started my training!

Currently I am following a training plan for an 8k but after the fourth week I will be moving to a half marathon training schedule. I have one extra week in my training before my race so I can use that as a week off or add a little more distance before the race. I'm using an app called RunKeeper that tracks each of my activities. I really like using it because it tracks where I run, how far I run, how fast I run, how much elevation I've gained, and it tells me when I have achieved a new personal record.

This week I have ran three times, strength trained, and cross trained twice. Caleb and I went road biking one day for cross training, and mountain biking for the other cross training day (I can't believe it is mid February and it is warm enough to mountain bike).

I feel great! I love that I am trying to keep my body healthy. On Friday, Caleb and I were out shopping and we were wondering what we should eat for dinner. We passed a Krispy Kreme and he suggested we eat donuts for dinner. That might sound absurd to you, but we have done that a handful to times in the past. I thought about it, and turned it down. I didn't want to do that too my body after I have worked so hard this week. I have very weak discipline when it comes to eating, and when I said no to eating delicious donuts, I felt accomplished! :)

I'm posting this in hopes that I continue with my program and that YOU can help me stay accountable, motivate me, and support me in my choices! Thanks in advance!

Oh, one more thing I like about Runkeeper. After my workout is done is allows me to take a picture and I think it's a fun idea. It gives me an excuse to also document my training with photos!

After my first road bike ride of the year!

And after my first mountain bike ride of the year!
Au revoir mes amis!

Spiritual thought of the week

I don't usually post religious thoughts but for once I feel like posting some thoughts I had today at Church.

Today our Stake President gave a great talk.

One point stuck out to me in particular. He said that if we are doing exactly what we want to do all of the time, we probably aren't as happy as we could be. He went on to describe what would happen if you let a four year old do whatever they wanted to do for a day. The four year old would probably eat Fruit Loops for every meal and would skip their nap. With all the sugar running in their body and the lack of sleep, we can bet that they will be cranky by evening time. By six o'clock at night you could offer them their favorite toy or movie but they would still scream at you. They may have done everything they wanted to, but they wouldn't feel good at the end of the day.

Although I am an adult on this earth, I am still a child to my Heavenly Father. Doing only what I want doesn't help me grow. I don't know what my life is supposed to look like, but He does. He has a road map for me and knows better. I need to remember to be humble as a child, to listen to my Fathers directions, and to trust that the end will justify the bumpy journey.

Anyway, I enjoyed the message!

Have a great week :)

Let's all brighten someones day!

Anyone else feel like the last two weeks have actually lasted about three months? I swear time is dragging it's feet right now, however, I came home from work today to a happy surprise. But first a little background info.

Each year for Caleb's birthday I try and go all out! Instead of celebrating his birthday for one day of the year, I like to celebrate Birthday Month. Last years Birthday Month was (skip ahead if you don't want to hear me toot my own horn) da bomb. It was helpful that I didn't work from August to mid September because I had a lot of time to plan. Anyways, there is a whole blog post worth of information on what we did for Birthday Month last year, but that's not what I'm blabbing about today.

Right, so I walk in the door today to see this beautiful package sitting on the floor.

It reads, "Happy gifts for no reason day!!!" and in parenthesis, "These definitely aren't birthday month gifts"

It made my day! It feels good to be thought about. My two long weeks of stress and boredom feel a lot better now.

I hope I can brighten someones day tomorrow.

Happy Thursday!
