Snow Cones

Dear Spokane,

I have a complaint. The complaint is this: Why don't you have any snow cone shacks????????

I can find a coffee shop on each corner but where do I get a delicious snow cone :(

I miss Utah county where you find snow cone shacks all over the place. Yummy, huge, cream topped snow cones.

Sincerely,

Ammie

Ps. Even Cats like snow cones!!!

Mini Vacation!

I have been excited about this weekend for a long time! A long while back we found out a friend of ours was getting married in Seattle and we knew that we would be living in Spokane by then. Of course we had to plan a trip to Seattle :)

So, we were off early Saturday morning with our Bacon-Egg Mcgriddles in hand and our trip song a blaring. I always try to find a trip song  or an album for each little adventure I go on. Then whenever that song/album plays I can be transported back and reminiscence on all of the memories. This trips song was Royals by Lorde.

Our first stop was a classic: Pikes Market. Calebs first time to Seattle (and only my second) had to include all of the touristy spots. We didn't' get to see the people throwing the fish sadly but we saw lots of delicious berries, beautiful flower arrangements, and pretty pictures. We heard an amazing guitar player, bought raspberry honey, braved the smelly bathrooms, and saw the gum wall!

We walked to the pier and saw the little shops and I ate some fish and chips. I don't really eat seafood; i make exceptions for fish and chips and tuna fish.

While walking to the Space Needle some nice young man asked us if we would like to participate for free in an attempt to have the worlds largest water balloon fight. We were down so we went to a park with four thousand other people and threw a bunch of balloons at each other!
Here are before pics:

 Here are after pics:

Due to the water balloon fight we ended up getting to the wedding a little late but we cleaned up, got lost a lot, and finally made it to the wedding where Caleb ended up taking a fantastic picture that won us an exclusive piece of wedding cake.
This is us at the wedding. Do we look like we just participated in a water balloon fight???
Coulda' fooled you huh?

At the wedding a sweet local girl told us about a beach we should go see so on Sunday morning we drove to Alki Beach. We explored and found a bunch of dead crabs and jellyfish, a BUNCH of starfish and anemones, and an awesome view of Seattle. I loved this place!

Isn't this guy beautiful?

I'm not sure if we were supposed to do this... he was just floating around so we picked it up...

And then we came home to Spokane. I love Seattle. I understand that the driving and parking it sucky but it is such a fun city. I hope I get a job soon so I can start saving money for more trips. We need to come back and go up the Space Needle. We need more time here too! A day and a half was not enough at all but I think that we did quiet a few fun things with the time we had.

Time for Rose Bud Thorn.

Rose: Our apartment is starting to feel more like home. Most of my decorations are up and I think I know where most of my stuff is. Maybe I will post pics someday.

Bud: Tomorrow is Monday. I applied for a few jobs at the end of last week so I am hoping that I get at least one call this week.

Thorn: Caleb starts orientation this week which means I will be on my own for the first time in Spokane for three days straight. I am sad that real life has to start again.

Good Night Neverland!

Postal Code 99203

Life has officially been turned upside down. We now are located in Spokane!
But first...
I have been a bad blogger. The month of July was a blast and we did bunches of fun things. I am short on time so pictures and a few comments will have to bring you up to speed.

 1. I went backpacking for the first time! My brothers have been telling me for the last few years that I have to come with them. I have been terrified of going because I'm a girl and I hate outdoor potty's but I got over it. We went with my brothers, my sister in law, some cousins, and some friends of my older bro's. We hiked to Teal Lake in the Uintahs. Now a million pictures.

We caught Salamanders

1st time using our new tent

The cold water addled their brains

It snowed!

2. We slacklined a lot and ate at all of our favorite places in Utah county. I am going to miss eating at Cubbys, Marleys, Zupas, Menchies, Savory and Sweet, El Vaquero, La Dolce Vita, and many others.

3. Caleb, my brother Blair, and I hiked to Timpangos. Well... sorta. We attempted to hike it I guess you would have to say. We started our hike at 11:30 PM and hiked all night. By about 4 am we had made it to the saddle. At this time I had been awake 23 hours and we had hiked uphill 4,000 feet. I was exhausted. We started going to the summit but at one point I got freaked out because it was dark, steep, and my body was shaking. I freaked out. I had to plead with Blair not to go any farther. He was one pissed off boy but he also was super sweet and he hiked back to the saddle with us. We waited at the saddle until about 6:15 when the sun finally came up. It was beautiful! I hope next time we try to hike it I can actually finish the hike.

Blair looking so unhappy and point to the summit...

So happy we survived and so ready to sleep
4. We bought a new car!
Her name is Ruby Roo
5. We had a last hurrah at my parents house. It was a blast, crazy, delicious, and heartbreaking. I had to say goodbye to my oldest brother GR and his wife Christine and also my grandma. I hate not being close to family. The weekend was fun tho. We slacklined, lit off fireworks, had a dance party, ate lots of food, slept in tents and on the tramp, played with Lily, watched movies, and plainly enjoyed each others company.

6. Caleb did a triathlon and I ran a 5k.
7. My sister moved to Utah county!!!! and less than a week later....
8. We moved :(

So far Spokane is... meh. I hate that there are no tall mountains. I hate the street names. I hate the one way roads. I hate not having any money. I hate job searching.

Good things about Spokane are: the parks, the used book store a few blocks from me, being close to Canada, and being close to Seattle. I'm sure this list will grow over time but it's pretty meager right now.

Hope things start looking up. I miss my family lots. I miss Utah lots. I balled the other day when the movie we watched played a song from Imagine Dragons that we listened to on our way to Moab. I also balled when the mountains looked like Utah. I balled when our neighbors moved some furniture and it sounded like when our old neighbor used to move furniture. Apparently I don't do well away from home. Again, hope things start looking up.
